Turner Prize 1984
December 5, 2011The Turner Prize was established in 1984.The prize was awarded to Malcolm Morley for his expressionist paintings incorporating collage. Despite The Guardian stating that ‘Malcolm Morley. The dark horse of the group. Clearly has no chance. Largely because he’s been living in America for the past 20 years and hardly qualifies as a British artist.’
Other nominees included sculptor Richard Deacon, graphic-styled collaborative duo Gilbert & George, abstract painter Howard Hodgkin and sculpture/installation artist Richard Long.
The 2011 nominees are Martin Boyce, George Shaw, Hilary Lloyd and Karla Black. The winner will be announced tonight from 8pm.
